Sliced and diced
Not sure where to put this one...it is cuts, shaving, honing, and a razor rebuild all in a package.
I built up an Imp wedge from a blade with mismatched scales, it had a shallow frown that I breadknifed out and then honed it. It turned out really nice.
I have been SR shaving for about 5 weeks and have a fair amount of practice with a spike without mishap. Apparently not with this one though! The first cut I deserved. I lost track of where the point was and got my ear within 5 seconds. Small, inconsequential, I felt it, knew why it happened, deserved it.
I then proceeded to fillet my face in three separate places before I knew of the first one! The longest was just under an inch the others quite short, none deep. I finished my face with that razor but did not let the point touch my face for the rest of the shave. I switched to another razor for the second pass after getting out the pencil...
Suggestions? Mute the point, avoid the razor, learn to use it as is, just bleed...

Are the slices one under the other...like three or four horizontal lines down the side of your face...as in the razor may be skipping down your face.
I've had that...razor wasn't honed properly...was back to the Mach 3 for a week while I healed.

Not skipping. Just a nice smooth pass and where the toe touched it sliced. I didn't think I was putting any pressure on it. I am pretty careful with angle and pressure but I will rethink that one.

Thanked: 3225Keep the pressure off the toe or blunt the blade if you want to keep using it. There is a reason spikes demand respect and I still am extremely mindful when I use them. For sure round tips are more forgiving but spikes keep you honest.

Thanked: 1195We all have that one razor that likes to bite more than the others. This one might be yours

You also may be lifting the heel giving the spike more purchase.

Imp day two. I got it out again this morning after deciding not to "muzzle" it. I did my normal shave but really concentrated on pressure and heel/toe balance. Got my normal workday 2 pass done, including using the toe in tight areas with no nicks/cuts or errors. I could like this razor...a very close shave.

Thanked: 3225Yea, it just takes a little extra care and attention to those two things with a spike. Glad you got it sorted out with a good result.
