Thanked: 1Ding or Chip in Straight Razor?
Just got my brand new straight razor and on my first shave i hit it on the faucet! I slipped just a little bit and wouldnt you know it i clipped the faucet, ugh... I am hoping someone will be able to tell me how much, if any damage i have done, and the proper way to fix it. I just bought a hone online, knowing i would need one in the future, but im really hoping i didnt mess it up to bad..
Thank you in advance for your suggestions, and i know the middle picture is a little dark thats why i zoomed in on the third.

Thanked: 1195Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that doesn't look good.
Looks like it will need some time on low grit hones - basically, starting honing back at square one. I would highly recommend sending that blade out to one of our reputed honemeisters as the damage is most likely beyond the capabilities of your new hone.

To me it doesn't look that bad it can be fixed the question is can you do it or will you send it to someone or is there someone near you that can do it. It will need to be honed before you use it again. Where are you stationed at ?

Thanked: 1371I'm looking at the pics on my phone... Is the steel folded in the middle of the blade?
If so, you're going to need some low grit work and a bevel reset.

I'm with Ryan and HNSB in that it looks like a bent spot on the edge in the middle, about lined up with the S in Star, but it could be just a photo artifact due to the background. However, the dings in the toe are obvious. All are fixable BUT..
I'd really recommend that you send it to a pro for honing. The last thing a new shaver needs to do is try to learn to hone before learning to shave. Do yourself a favor and send it out. Besides, that gives you an excuse to buy a backup razor!

Hey Doc,
Welcome to the forum!!
It is the two dings on the toe, Correct? I don't think trying to repair the edge would be a good start to honing. Honing is a learning curve and repairing an edge is another learning curve. Don't take a chance on damaging a nice razor even more with honing.
As Slamthunderide mentioned, listing your location or general location may help if there is a member in your area that might offer to help out. Other than that, I'd take Ryan's advice and send it to a pro. Here's a link to our "Member Services" and you'll find a number of members offering honing and repairs. Thanked: 1Yes it's the two dings in the toe, thank you everyone for the quick response, I was stationed in California where I had my other razor and knew where to take it, I'm now in Nebraska where it seems straight razors haven't quite taken off, so I'm a little lost on how to get this fixed. Thank you guys again.
