    Default Loading a Shavette

I've heard that you brake a DE in Half to load it into a shavette. How do you do that? Are there certain razors that are snapable?

    1. That's true depending on the shavette and the sleeve you are using for said shavette.
    2. Very cautiously. Press one side angled down on a counter top and keep raising the angle of the other end. You have to be careful that you don't cut yourself or dull the edge. Sometimes, if wrapped in a paper sleeve, you can just bend it past it's fracture point without taking it out of the sleeve. Then again, I don't live in Hawaii were everything has increased ductility!
    3. I think that most of the DE's are snapable, at least all the ones I've encountered in my limited experience.

Wow, do I feel like a 'tard. That wasn't all that hard at all...I was thinking I had the wrong kind of blade and was using injector blades instead (not that easy to get in. Thanks Cuda...

Every time I tried to "snap" one I have ended up bleeding on the counter. Now I just use a small pair of wire cutters to snip them in half.

you know, i had the same thought. I got up after reading Fred's post (praying that the end of #2 wasn't true...lol ) and snapped one in half. Easy enough, but i thought...Damn, almost cut myself...i could just use the clippers I have in my fly trying box...

Aren't you supposed to leave the wrapper on when you snap it?

Not all DE blades have individual wrappers.

This, of course, is the goal. I have used a straight and continue to do so. I was just wondering because I have a off island gig for St. Patty's Day and don't want to take my straight with me (can't bear the thought of losing it) so it's shavette time.

For that I'd rather use a regular DE, but if you already have a shavette, there's no reason not to use it, especially since you can handle a straight.
