Hey - no problem, exploration is great, all part of this wonderful hobby!

Go and have a look at some of the threads by Laurens, he's does stunning things with Gold Dollars.

If I'm not mistaken, in order to learn honing, he decided to use GD's for the very fact that while they can be great blades, they have a tendency to have inconsistent geometry; therefore, perfect to learn how to hone when presented with blades with various levels of problems.

He then took it up a notch, and did some further design (e.g., scales) work on them, and created some really spectacular blades, all great shavers.

So in terms of exploration and what your preferences are, absolutely agree with you....cheers!

This is a fantastic idea. Much better than nearly ruining your Thiers-Issard that your girlfriend got you for christmas...

I have started buying razors via ebay lately and it has been a lot of fun too (thanks phrank). There have also been challenges with the geometry of those blades too. Not much different then the Gold dollar except that my ebay razors have a rich history and are more valuable which I enjoy in a different way.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one
