kevinred,
You would be amazed at what works as a 'shaving medium'
When I am in a hurry, I use a squirt of 'personal lubricant' (K-Y in this case), with a few of drops of my oil mix (jojoba, almond, olive & macadamia oils) : rub in hands to an emulsion and apply to chops.
For me, it works superbly
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Thanked: 3226Gave it a test go with the oil yesterday and found that, while it does work, it is not for me. I will stay with my soap/brush and face lathering.

Thanked: 60Day 2.5 almost 3
For me the experiment has come to an end. I have broken out with zits!!!! I haven't had zits since I was a teen, I get the odd one, every now and then but not three all on my chin
Ok so I'm guessing if I continued my skin would adjust, I'm going to leave the oil alone for a few days then I will try just as a pre shave and see how I go.
I did like the moisturised face and the shaving, wondering if it would be a good thing to do when my skin gets dry, but I guess I could just rub the stuff in before bed instead of my usual moisturiser. lol. I enjoyed the experiment but I'm no fan of zits especially at 47 years old…lolIt is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

Thanked: 3226Well, it went alright but I did not get the slickness/glide I thought it would give and I had to wash my face to try and get rid of that oily skin feeling after. Had hoped it might simplify my travel shaving kit but it is an alternative if I get caught out with no brush and soap. So yea, my preference is still for the brush and soap for a good face lathering. Kinda glad too, how else would I get rid of the stockpile of shave soaps and creams I have accumulated.
Bob
Just saw your zits post and I bet the oil helps to clog the pores by attracting dirt into them. I have naturally oily skin and had trouble with zits all my life so my aversion to my skin feeling oily. I have had better facial skin since I started straight shaving and finishing with alum block followed with an AS.

Thanked: 60I'm glad you tried it Bob. My skin tends to be dry, especially after shaving, but its always been that way. I moisturise a lot so I thought the oil would help. Maybe you could try the 3/4 drops pre shave method and see what you think. When I tried the oil as a pre shave it worked well as the face lathering must have removed some of the oil. I'm also glad really as I do like the brush and soap routine.

Thanked: 3226It is good to experiment or you never find things out. I don't think I will use it as a pre shave oil because I have to wash my hands after applying it so I feel I have a good hold of the razor.

Winter is driest air and most skin probs around here. So i'd think that a couple of oils shaves per week might be enough to strike a balance this time of year, and less in the summer.
I'll give it a go when i land some oil appropriate.Buttery Goodness is the Grail

Thanked: 57The practice of using oil is as old as the hills. The Romans used olive oil, the strigel and the razor. Nothing new here...
