Thanked: 60It's the heat of Subtropical summer here. in and above the 30 Degrees C mostly. Constantly perspiring, that seems to dry my face. The winters are beautifully warm with pleasant breezes. 23-25 Degrees C on an average day. My skin is always at it's best in winter, I think the heat has a lot to do with it.
I have in no way written this off, I'm going to try the pre shave route then if I don't like that I will be using the oils shave to rehydrate my skin regularly as you suggest Wade. Let me know how you get on. Different skin types will I'm sure get different results. It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

Thanked: 375Nice write up, I've tried just using oil but I missed whipping up a lather. I use an oil mix of Jojoba, Coconut and grape seed oil under the lather and have had no issue with breakouts.
Somebody else posted this here somewhere, can't remember where. I think your fairly safe with Almond oil

Thanked: 375Bob I have oily skin too and the oils I've been using have actually tamed the oil slick that develops throughout the day for me - I believe Jojoba oil is good for controlling oily skin (counter intuitive), although I could be full of it, but pretty sure I read that somewhere.....

Thanked: 37Today I did this but as a remedy. I had a basic shave before going to work, and when I arrived I found I missed some spots. So in my toiletries bag in the drawer I had a small vial of my home made pre shave 50/50 glycerin and grapeseed oil. I had a straight razor there also and did the touch up with just oil. Neat.

Thanked: 9I tried Floid shaving oil with sr. Most stores sell this oil as pre-shave oil but manufacturer says it is shaving oil. I had really much doubts about shaving with oil. But I made a review of it same time so I had just to do it. First stroke I thought my sr was dull, it was just awful. I changed to other sr and it was as still awful. It was all pulling and tugging. As pre-shaveoil it worked as good as any other pre-shave oil, except it is shaving oil I had to finish shave with brush and soap and my two sr's worked great rest of the shave.

Well, I tried it last night, and found it to be a viable solution, but not preferable to a brush and some soap (for me). It's faster since there's no brush to clear and dry, and all I really needed was some tissue to clean the stubble off the blade.
But I didn't like the feeling as much as face lathering with a good soap. For travel, the office or a few days outdoors it's a definite option. I did my usual wtg+atg and got an irritation free, less than perfect but quite presentable shave. I did wash my face with soap and water afterwords, but it's definitely on the quick and mess free side of things. One observation worth mentioning, as someone here said the fingers kept slipping, but rubbing my fingers on a wet alum block reduced the effect significantly.
In conclusion, not a game changer, but definitely another tool in the arsenal.
Thanks for the offer to try something different
