Hopefully it's not one of the $40 Pakistani made eBay specials or you just bought a letter opener.

It's a shame eBay feedback can be padded by unscrupulous means.
I doubt you'll find any experienced guys here would have recommend that as a buy.
Do you have a lot of letters need opening ? Sorry for the sarcasm but I know how this story ends.
$40 for Damascus steel is surely made in Pakistan & I haven't heard of one lasting a full 3 pass shave yet.

Are you aware of this page ? It may help you in further choices.

This razor was on the list, Sweeney Todd razors, If I would have read the posts about what not to buy I would not have wasted 45 bucks, any one want to buy a expensive letter opener? I am learning how to hone and looks like I will get a lot of practice!!! Thanks again for all the info and hope that no one else makes the same mistake I did. ( I am sure I won't be the last ) I should have known, as he does not give refunds. Only shows you get what you pay for.

He might if you confront him NOW that all the experts say that's not suitable for the purpose of shaving (your face*), with additional honing or not. Open a case with ebay, he'll either pay off or squirm/wiggle away.

worth a shot. That kind of money will get you a ugly razor that shaves fine at Larry's joint.

*it might be perfect for shaving the hair off a goat-hide drum skin.

Indeed, I'd call that "item not as described"

On the plus side and there is very much one - you can now get a great razor from Whipped Dog that will actually function as a razor and not as a bloodletting tool/death trap.

Well its exactly like you said, tried to sharpen it and I almost got it sharp enough and comes to a certain point and it went dull again. must have spent three hours on this razor and still would not sharpen. I would protest to ebay but to embarrassed. I will Use the scales for a restoration sometime. Will purchase name brand razors on the list of good ones from now on. Thanks for all the advise.

Too sharp? No. Not possible. I struggle to get as keen an edge as my "dealer" does. Super sharp blade, no pressure and some time to myself is what it is all about.

Reading the SRP Library prior to making mistakes helps you avoid them. Reading the Library after making the mistakes proves that diligent research would have helped you avoid them.
