Thread: Hot blade or cold blade?

I personally prefer a warm blade most of the time but I don’t find it essential as I often face lather & fairly well cold shave also.
except for the “Fools Pass” on the upper lip it must be back to scary sharp & a warn to hot blade preferred every time over a cold blade.
just doesn’t feel right otherwiseSaved,
to shave another day.

I do cold shaves, but I rinse my blade under hot water. I prefer the feel of a warm blade over a cold blade while shaving.
No matter which blade I use, I always rinse it during shaving. I've tried wiping on the towel and TP, but I always came back to rinsing. I always wipe the blade dry after shaving. I haven't had any blade rust or damage issues. You can take the boy out of NY, but you can't take NY out of the boy.

Thanked: 270Honestly for me it doesn't matter. I generally cold water shave as a matter of convenience.
There is a debate whether it is best to shave with warm water so the hairs will be limp and come right off while shaving, or shave with cold water so the hairs will be brittle and come off with a minimum of irritation. My barber sides with the warm shave and I side with the cold shave.
Either works for me, so I cold water shave because I live in a warm climate and it is more convenient to use tap water. My advice to anyone is that if one approach irritates your face, try the other.

Thanked: 270I might have been the guy. A month into straight shaving I focused so hard on technique that I sliced my thumb down to the tendon switching hands and had to have four stitches. Looking back, that might have been the source of my determination to learn how to straight shave because I wasn't going to let that razor get the best of me!
