    Default Shaving and passes

    Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has the same problem as I do?

When I go ATG on my neck and make a proper prep it seems i get a bit of ingrown hairs!

    I use SR!
    Have a nice day!

Are you doing an ATG pass first? Are you stretching your skin well? Is the blade sharp and smooth? Maybe to much pressure. Could be any number of technique or equipment issues try slowing down and e if you concentrate on light pressure and angles if that helps. I personally don't get them anymore. Good luck. Let us know. I'm 66, have been shaving for more than 50 years and had desk jobs where I had to be clean shaven for most of those years...I have never shaved ATG on my neck with any type of razor. If WTG and some creative XTG and touch-ups get it close enough for me.

I go for BBS (occasionally) on my chin and cheeks (the areas I might rub on sensitive parts of a lady). My neck, not so much...I get awful razor burn.

I started ATG... I've switched back to WTG. I wouldn't get ingrown hairs but irritation under my chin.

I wasn't getting much closer a shave anyway - and it took me much longer to go ATG than WTG. The missus has given me no complains since changing (she's not noticed) and that's the measurable that's important to me.

Every time I read in a post that the shaver is having problems and irritation I can only think of what I did to alleviate a lot of the problem. It has nothing to do with direction of shave or a special soap/cream (or razor blade if you're using a DE or SE) or any incantation one might utter if you are a Wiccan - Try a cold water shave and rinse. Even lukewarm or body temp water will give a noticeable difference. My two cents.

    babarog,

Shaving against the grain is a frequent cause for skin irritation and ingrown hairs — for some more than others. Perhaps it is for you.

Some years ago, I told my doctor that when I bent my right elbow a certain way, it hurt. He said don't do it, then.

Opt for comfort rather than perfect, whether on your neck or other parts of your face. Stay with the grain and across the grain on your neck. It might not be a perfect shave, but better that than skin irritation and ingrown hairs.
