Wow a well written one for once lol!
I remember back in the day I dated a paramedic. Before dating her, I doubt I ever noticed an ambulance in my day to day life. But once I started to date her, all I saw was ambulances lol.
I am sure there are ebs and flows in the romanticism of straight razor shaving, but I think it'll always be romanticized. I mean what's more manly than straight razor shaving? So long as we continue to produce ways to express the hight of manlyness, the straight shave will always call out to men.
But it does take more time - and time is something we all fight to get more of. Moreover it takes some skill. Learning a new skill takes time too and with so many substitute goods... well I feel it'll always be nitch. And that's OK by me.
If you really think about it - I would bet we are way less than 1% - its probably the only thing in my life that I'll ever be able to lay claim to being in the 1% or less category .David

Yeah, I don't think there is ever going to be a true straight razor explosion. I am glad though that people are writing decent articles about shaving and raising the awareness for such a big part of a man's life. I am a big proponent of using a DE in tandem with a straight. I use my straights for 9 out of 10 shaves, but occasionally I need the speed or portability of a DE. With more attention to shaving hopefully things will be easier to come by... imagine picking up your TOBS at Wally World!?!?!?!
Razor rich, but money poor. I should have diversified into Eschers!

We live in a fast paced society. It seems like people don't want to take the time to 1. Learn how to use a SR, Strop, Make lather etc. 2. Get up early in the morning to actually do it. I don't think they will ever be as big as they were in the 18-1900's but they are definitely the best thing I've ever shaved with. It really makes you slow down and is meditative. It gives you a sense of pride maintaining your blade. It makes you feel manly but frankly you don't see ads on TV praising the SR. All you see recently is that "this is what men do, to try and get every hair.... this is what we do Gillette commercial about the flex ball pro glide. Those things are expensive and I found that I only could ever shave a light stubble with a disposable. Anything more then a few days growth was painful. I wish they would come back but I think only those who for whatever reason they have are drawn to it will continue to use it myself included. I wake up every morning thinking... know what would be nice right now to start the day. Lathering up and having a relaxing shave.
