Thanked: 154Tried shaving with weak hand
Hi All,
I was in the middle of my morning shave, and just for grins tried shaving my left cheek with my weak (left) hand. Lots of gents on SRP have written about switching hands during a shave, which gave me confidence to try it. It felt a little awkward, but worked really well. And it was fun. Just wanted to share and say a general "thank you" to you all.
Cheers,

Thanked: 45I actually love using my weak hand as interestingly, I find I can use it a bit more for other things since it requires such coordination.

I am a right handed person and have never in 72 years been able to do much of anything left handed. However I do switch hands shaving easily. Interestingly enough is that on a morning after a few too many toddies I can do better with the left than the right. The right will be shaky and the left will not be??

I use both hands.
When I have tried doing a right-only shave I found it very awkward. Practice will improve one's muscle memory but why bother with success.

I'm right handed and I use both hands during the shave and started out that way because that is what most people said to do. It was a little awkward at first but now it is second nature. It's all about muscle memory and training those muscles to be nice and steady during the shave which takes practice and repetition. Come to think of it, my right hand was not very good at shaving when I started out either.

I've no trouble switching hands when shaving my face, but have a real hard time switching it up on my neck. I use my dominant right hand to shave the left side of my neck, but when I switch to my left hand for the right side of my neck...well, it just doesn't feel right. I'm still trying to work this out. Does anyone have the same issue?

Yes, I use my left hand to shave the left side of my face, chin, and neck with the grain (down). However, when I go across the grain or against the grain, I primarily use my right hand for everything. I believe you could train your left to do anything; however, the main reason IMHO for choosing to use the left (or non-dominant) hand for that side is so that you do not block your vision when coming across the face with your arm. Once you have that out of the way, use the hand that gives you the best angle and reach for what you are trying to accomplish.

Thanked: 5I just gave my left (weak side) hand a try last shave. I used it only on my left cheek,MAND it felt a little funny, but worked fine. I plan to keep extending my use of it to give me more options as I learn.

Thanked: 0You're a brave soul, laddy. I tried that once and nearly hacked off my nose. Left a giant cut. Will never do that again.
