I have been looking for shorty candidates as I love a non-traditional, short blade. If you care to sell your fallen-Fili, let me know. If the size is usable, I might be interested in it with or without scale.

Seems that quite a few enjoy the shorties, I never knew that many actually preferred them, I though they what you ended up with if you happened to have a damaged blade...learn something knew everyday...is there a razor group for those that prefer shorties? If not should there be...? I know I'd be interested in seeing more...

Funny.. if there is a group I want in as well!!

My first shorty was an 8/8 Brian Brown custom. Big blade with a short cutting edge. I fell in love with how easy it moved around for an 8/8. Then I found a W&B FBU that lost about a half inch off the tip. That quickly became a favorite of mine. I used that yesterday as a matter of fact. Following these I came across a 13/16 Bengall that is also a favorite. I love Bengall's and have a few, but the shorty is my favorite. Most recently I came across a Japanese Kikuboshi that lost some off it's heel. The edge was shortened from that end.. Standard size blade shortened by about a half inch from the heel. It's a magical shaver. It looks a little odd because the blade etching is off center, but it shaves like the dickens! The cream of the crop is a Taylor's Eyewitness-The Special 3000. It's got the same geometry as the Kikuboshi, but it's made that way, with the shortened edge and added length in the shank. The jimping goes the whole shank. It's such a nice razor I use it sparingly. The story behind it that it was special ground by the factory for gents with larger hands. I've seen two... mine and one other. Who knows how many there are.

I've tried mustache razors, but they tend to be too small. Same for the diminutive DePews.

I believe I have a Fenney (I think, it's an old Sheffield) spike point somewhere that is a shorty, never used it, was cheap and when it arrived I hadn't read that it was a shorty (my fault), I will pull it out later and you can have a look at it....is a nice razor.

I have a couple of shorties. Every now and then if I see what looks like a decent razor (shortie or not) thats super cheap on eBay, I'll pick it up to hone it. If they are decent shavers, I keep them handy for travel. I have a phobia of losing a razor to a TSA inspection. So my really good stuff always stays home. The last was a New England Razor Co. It looks like about 1/8 or 1/4" was sawed off and finished. But the steel is nice and it shaves well enough. It'll come with me to NOLA in the spring.

I don't do a lot of traveling by air.. mostly ground, so I am not selective about which I take.

A blade of about 2 1/2 to 2 5/8 is the sweet spot for me. Can't lie, I've had thoughts of chopping down a few razors I have but then sanity won out. There are enough broken razors to be had that I don't need to assassinate a good vintage blade.
