I feel your frustration starting out orville. I feel like I'm having some of the same issues as well. The biggest piece of advice I have gotten is that it "takes time" and if something feels wrong "stop". I felt today I had better luck with a shallower angle and it was quite comfortable as I did my right cheek and a few strokes on the neck and finished with el cheapo disposable. Oh...and I had a razor that was supposed to be in the stand in the cabinet somehow jump out and into the sink. So Lynn already has a message from me for a re hone. Good luck as let us know how it goes!

Moisturizer - I applied moisturizer after my shower.
Strop - I cut the strop while using it after the shave. As it was supposed to be "shave ready" my razor was used straight from the box.

    Next shave is tomorrow.

Don't lose heart, you are only on shave one. If the strop is nicked at one end just avoid that bit next time. My first strop is full of small nicks at one end and it's still going strong a year and a half later.
Perhaps just do a partial shave with the straight and finish with your D/E.
It will come with time, i was still battling after 3 months and it was probably 6 months until I felt like I had it and then a year until I was really comfortable with the whole process.

Bath tub - not for me but the wife uses a SR on her legs and sits in the hot tub on the step. I think you have come a long way with just your first shave but keep at it and when you have a bad day ( and there will be) just keep plugging away. Stay tuned on the forums and you will learn as you go. I am very close to my 400th SR shave and every shave is a good one now but it did not happen over night and I am still learning

Oh . . . I am not giving up. In the light of day, I do think it was just virgin nerves . . . once I got that first stroke in it did seem to improve. Saturday will be a tub shave for my scalp and neck area, which should allow plenty of hydration for my face. After a rinsing shower, and moisturizer, it will be a full face shave with the straight and we will see if things have improved. going to watch a few stropping vids, and rewatch the Abrams video, too.

Not to hijack here, but there is virtually NO razor I wouldn't sacrifice in that circumstance...
But outside of Brooklyn Decker or Kate Upton....I agree!
