Default Left side neck playing with nick fire

    Morning Shavers,

Well its been 3 weeks with a Boker King Cutter bought from Straight Razor Design. No nicks yet, well a couple of weapers/creepers, but the left neck side is playing with nick fire. Upper face both sides using both hands going well with wtg and xtg. Neck right side right hand with down ward stroke going well. However, on the left side using the left hand I have been getting a bit of tug/pull chatter. Maybe, left side I need to try a different angle or thats the side thats going to let me know I dulled my blade. I use a Lynn paddle strop and thought I didn't use to much pressure in the strop. I did decide to fresh up the Boker with the diamond paste/ruff leather then the smooth leather. But not much better on the left. Have been watching the angle of the blade, could be better but I am thinking its more hand eye and first pass direction. I am sure the blade is not as sharp as the day it arrived. My plan now is to pick up another Boker or Ralf Aust and not strop first just wipe off oil and shave to check a base line on the neck. I guess everyone has a problem spot. I have been working on the left side till I get to the point I think the next touch will nick then switch to the DE. Still leaving the chin for last.

Welcome to SRP ecor: Try stretching your skin in those problem areas. If your razor is still pulling and skipping it may be time for a touch-up on crox paste or a finishing stone. When you strop the razor, it's very important not to push the razor down into the strop with force. You want the spine and edge of the blade to glide across the leather.

Someone wrote once and it helped me!

"Start by just shaving off the lather" AKA. Decrease the pressure.

I bet you increase the pressure of your razor when you go to the left. When you change your grip postion of the razor.
    I know I did.
It's a dog eat dog world and I have on milk bone underwear.

If it is shaving well on the chin/mustache it is not the razor. Blade angle, pressure, stroke. Something in the equation is causing the problem.

As feltspanky and Scareface said above, maybe check out blade and angle/pressure and absolutely stretch the skin taut. On my neck, towards the back, I have to flatten it out.

I do that with my index finger sticking out and pulling down and towards the rear at the base of my neck. ...........
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Sometimes, I forget to stretch since the razor is gliding ok on the face. I will have to try a couple different stretch directions on the neck. I do know over the years to watch the left side, razor burn will rear its ugly head on the left. But, since using a DE and working that razor, I rarely get razor burn on the left so maybe lighter pressure than I use with the DE/feather blade for the straight . Sometimes, I find that I am trying to use either the front 1/3 of the blade to maybe more middle of the razor. Hand eye and I can't dance. Plan today, I' ll try and flatten as much of the left, watch angle and light pressure to take just the soap.

    Thanks,

    Eric
