    Default It burns! It burns!

Well... I've had my first encounter with an over honed blade...

All I can think of it that I have given it a few too many strokes on the 1 micron side of my Tony Miller paddle before moving to the 0.5 micron side.

The result is predictable... razor burn and LOTS of it my poor face is stinging like all hell and it's beet red

On the upside only a single weeper and no nicks.

    Oh well live and learn.

If I'd used metho you'd have heard the scream (900Km away)...

jaegerhund: not to my face there isnt... and "metho" is slang for methylated spirits (or denatured alcohol) it'd be right up there with using a salt and vinegar mix as an aftershave

Yes, ... there's no such thing as too sharp.

Yeah -- I like that attitude but overly sharp razors can cause irritation as well right?

I suppose sharpness (no matter how sharp) ends when a deteriorating (overhoned) edge begins? ---- awh fudge!!!

When I first started using a straight razor , I had terrible rash/razor burn on my neck and on the sides of my chin --- it wouldn't go away --so I grabbed the rubbing alcohol (metho I suppose) and dowsed my face with it. Boy that felt good --- like a tropical paradise in Hell --- but James grandma was right --cleared it up for sure (taught that rash a freaken lesson).

If I recall correctly meths doesn't feel that bad on cuts for the first few seconds. It's only after that it starts to burn. At least that's true for cuts on the finger but having never had the inclination to turn masochist I've never tried it on my face.
