Thanked: 4My very first straight razor shave and no blood !!
OK guys...I may have done this all wrong....my technique was awkward, I didn't prepare my face properly, I just lathered up with poraso and opened up the straight and started scraping away three days of stubble....
I SHOULD have softened my beard first...I had tugging
I SHOULD have paid more attention to the videos of how to hold your razor...
I SHOULD have made sure I knew what I was doing....
My face is sore....that's ok...
My Krusius is dry and put away safe...that's ok too
I didn't bleed.....priceless !!
I am determined to get this right...loved every minute of it.....

It gets better with practice congrats give your skin a couple days to heal before jumping at it again... could be the angle that helped cause the razor burn so keep watching the videos

Tugging = Dull razor or poor technique
Razor burn = TOO MUCH pressure (probably because of dull razor or bad technique) LOL
Keep at it... Watch all the videos you can and keep asking questions.
You WILL get it!

Thanked: 4827a couple of things that made a big difference for me in the beginning. Keep the blade angle low, with the spine about 2x the width of the spine from your skin. Stretch your skin. You will know when you have your razor grip correct because it will be comfortable and you will have excellent control of the blade, those are the only two things that matter with your grip. Also your grip need not be particularly tight. Practice makes for better results.

Good prep, stretching the skin and short strokes.
As far as prep is concerned, I find most beginners will overlook this step and will often produce a thin lather that will dry up quickly. Take the time to whip up a nice thick and cushiony lather.

Hey Drew! All the above is good advice....especially the part about beard prep, good lather, skin stretching AND WATCHING plenty of videos.
You've got shave ready edges SOOOO....Watch your angles...30 degrees or less, "shave the lather", and short strokes. You'll get it!Lupus Cohors - Appellant Mors !
