a DE can be OK to great, however they can light you up as can any Razor cartridge, de or straight. Take your time and do NOT let fear drive your shave.happy shaves friend.

Thanked: 3Last Friday night I ordered a Boker 4/8 from SRD. Monday afternoon the mail carrier delivered it! I was so amazed I had to strop it and lather up. That little blade cuts so slick I barely noticed the slice below my left ear. Next thing my lather was turning red. Styptic didn't stop the flow so it was a "good" one! I didn't bother with a second shave. Just cleaned up and did the old tissue trick on the cut. The funny thing is my first half dozen shaves with my antique razor only caused a little blood-letting. Oh well, like I always say: Bleed and learn!

Thanked: 2As everybody else has said this isn't something you want to do in a rush. Even with DEs you can cut yourself pretty bad if you rush so either decide to set time aside for a shave until you get proficient or wait until you have time. I'd rather walk into work with stubble then a bunch of cuts all over my face.

Thanked: 96Sounds like your problem is your surrounding. The worst cut I got was when my wife knocked on the door and screamed when will you be done. You need to concentrate using a straight pure and simple. I have shaved with a Feather and preferred the Proquard blade but again you need to concentrate. The Feather is smaller and easier to handle at first. When I am in a hurry, I use my Merkur Futur with a crystal blade on 1.5 setting and it is extremely difficult to cut yourself. Also use a good creme or soap, not a can product.
