Thanked: 4206Shave vid, A weeks growth chopped down with a Shumate 296
Hi gents. Tackled my weeks vacation growth with my NOS Shumate 296.
Only the second time I've used this blade, and only the second time I've tried to do a video while shaving.
I am bad at the clever monologues some gents can so easily provide during their shaves, but love the results this blade provided.
ATG on the chin is still an unnatural sensation for me, but I continue to try to become adept. No cuts nicks, or irritation after two passes so no complaints.
Feedback always welcome.
Cheers gents.

I like how you used the mirror to film always keeping face and razor visible.

Damn dude, can't believe you whacked thru a weeks thick growth in 5 minutes!!!
Still trying to build up the nerve to take a sharp piece of metal to my throat! Have the exact same razor on the way. Not a NOS but in really awesome condition. Going to have to man up and give it a try!!
How long have you been straight shaving to become so adept?
Really well shot video BTW!

Thanked: 4206Thanks the feedback gentlemen. Glad the vid turned out OK.
Sound of burnt toast really nails it for an apt descriptor! I find I prefer a singing hollow blade as I continue to gain competency in this style of shaving.
The angle using the mirror worked out better than I hoped based on the results of my first vid last year. I thought it important to try to get the full face, or at least doing half of the full face without blocking the angle with my elbows.
I've been using a straight now for almost two years, and have drawn blood a few times in the pursuit of perfection. What now takes 5 minutes started at 15 or more. I found the biggest issue I had was leaving the blade against the skin when adjusting grip. Seems silly in retrospect but 95% of my cuts were caused by repositioning movements while still against my face. That and pressure, or an abundance of pressure while trying to shave.
Letting the blade do the work, and keeping the angle as flat as you can for your grind are nuances that really help as well.
Happy shaves all!"Depression is just anger,, without the enthusiasm."

Thanked: 0Nice video - thanks!
Boy I have a long way to go, takes me two passes to get as much whisker as you get in one. I'm sure it's technique, it'll come...
