Thanked: 6Listening while shaving?
How many of you guys use your ears as feedback while shaving? Today I focused on the sound the blade makes while cutting hairs and got the smoothest shave I had to date.
Also is the sound it produces is what is called singing?

I just stepped out of the shave den where I used my Torry 156, one of my "loudest" razors in terms of giving audible feedback. For me, the singing of a razor helps point out places where another stroke or two can get whiskers that you can't see but are still there. This seems more evident on ATG strokes. So, yes, I think paying some attention to the sound helps get a better shave.

I always listen for the sound of the razor whether I'm honing, stropping, or shaving. If the sound is off, then I know I'm messing up.

Thanked: 6Don't know why but just focused on that this morning but will continue to from now on. Loving the whole experience of straight shaving!

The simple answer is yes. I use it both stroping and shaving.

I love the sound a nice hollow grind makes as I shave. Don't know if I could use that sound to improve technique, but it sure is a wonderfully calming noise, to me. All the music I need.

I admit to this. When it stops speaking there is aught left to cut.

Thanked: 10I do love that sound, and always use it to tell if something is off.

I never realized how much I shaved with sound as an aid until my wife decided to turn on the radio one morning. I had to go shut it off because I realized I needed the auditory feedback!
The really deep hollow grinds will give the most feedback when both shaving and stropping.
