I generally do two passes, but if I find I need a bit of touch up in the evening, say, before going out, one pass works well.

2 pass + touch up on The Chin and moustache area and i'm good to go. When i started straight shaving it was 3 pass for me to, but after you get use to The straight i found for myself that 3 is not needed. I do 1 WTG, 1 ATG on The neck and cheeks, 1 ACTG on The Chin and moustache area and i finish up whit 1 pass ACTG again The Chin and moustache area( tough stubles there).

Thanked: 5I was thinking of starting a new thread on this subject, but thankfully S0LITARYS0LDIER was thinking the same thing!
I'm kinda new (about 3 months), so was wondering if everyone does 3 passes. I don't, and was wondering if I had bad technique.
I usually do one pass WTG. [That clears the brush, so to speak, with reduction shaving.] Then I do a second pass mostly WTG but XTG in some spots. Then I do touch-ups where needed, but not a full third pass. Usually the chin and just below where my jaw hinges. Sometimes a hollow in my neck. That's just touch-ups on second pass. A third pass usually leaves irritation.
That usually shaves close enough. ATG I have only tried a couple of times, not everywhere, and in places it does more irritation than close shave, so not worth it. I kind of determined that either a) ATG is not needed or b) I haven't figured out the ATG technique properly yet. Maybe a bit of both.
Glad this thread was started, so I can find out what other guys are doing!
PS: my technique is probably not perfect yet, but ATG may not be needed, either. While my technique, especially for ATG, is not perfect, I may not need to do it, so may not do so. If 2 passes works, then 2 passes it is. When technique improves, perhaps 1 pass would suffice, as other guys are doing. But if not, 2 passes with touch-up works for me. Do what works for you. Don't stress, have fun!

I do one pass WTG and one XTG. This usually results in a nice DFS and even the occasional BBS, depending on the razor.

Thanked: 3226Yea, like most things connected with shaving people eventually find what works for them to their satisfaction. Me, I do 4 passes daily.

At first it was 3 then 2.5 now I do 2 passes most days unless I need smooth skin into the evening. One is sufficient. But I prep a lot of soap and the actual passes don't take that long so the second is more for relaxation before the busy day.

Thanked: 135I'm about two years shaving with a straight and generally shave every other day and by then my beard is heavy; one pass just wouldn't cut it without a lot of cleanup. I get a DFS with two passes; wtg and xtg. For me and my Arky edges, true BBS is not possible without an atg pass.
But for me and most on this forum (guessing here), wet shaving with a straight is a pleasure; I feel like I'm cheating myself with less than 3 passes. But if I'm in a hurry two passes results in a DFS. I just can't see doing one pass when a second pass is only a couple minutes more and results in a better shave (for me).

I'm kinda new to this SR'ing. I shave everyday and it's 2 passes for me: 1 WTG and 1 XTG.
It's kinda weird, right after my 2nd pass, I can still feel a minuet amount of stubby. However, after the cold water rinse and post-shave lotion, it is as smooth as a baby's butt! Even through out the day, still smooth.
