Thanked: 481I will say this, generally I loathe cold and cold water. Even more so during the winter. But on a hot summer day, it can be pretty darn refreshing.
Sometimes during the winter I still 'treat myself' to a hot shave with warm lather. I know there'll be a bit of extra razor burn at the end, but sometimes it's worth it for the luxury of a warm shave.

I switched to cold-water shaving about 4 months after taking up straights nearly 7 years ago, and I get great results. Even in the dead of winter, I find that the cold water doesn't feel too cold on my face; I suppose that's because of all the blood rushing around in one's head. One added benefit I've noticed is that when I do nick myself, it doesn't bleed as much and it stops faster; maybe the cold water keeps the capillaries from dilating? Just my two cents; you gotta do what is most comfortable and effective for you. Have fun!

Interested aspect. That a coldwater shave would stop bleading faster makes sence... Hadnt thought of that. Thanx

Thanked: 38I picked up the cold water shave habit a few years ago after reading about it here. Very pleased with the change. It took a little while to get my lather back, but overall I'm happier now. Much less irritation.

Thanked: 72The only time I cold water shave is when I am running really, really late for work. Then, it is a lifesaver and I get a good shave.
However, normally, I'm a hot water in a hot scuttle guy. I don't think the performance is better, I just think the experience is better.
The warm lather feels great, the scent opens up more when it's warm and I just enjoy my shave more.D-rings, not handles

Thanked: 44The secret to cold water shaving is not to skimp on the prep. When you use hot water your beard hydrates faster. When you're cold water shaving, you either need to let your beard soak longer, or prep with hot water and shave with cold.

Thanked: 481This is basically my prep. I build lather in the bowl actually, but splash my face and work it until I like the consistency there. But it's splash & go unless I showered before shaving. Showering kind of adds to the prep time because then I have to splash a few times with cold water to make sure the skin tightens back up.
