Thanked: 4823It's funny how we all have a different approach. I too have whiskers that grow flat to my skin. My approach is 1st pass is mostly against the grain and me second is mostly across the grain. Even if I have not shaved for several day and have quite the hobo look going on. I started with first pass against the grain after a woman in a barber shop took that approach and it works quite well for me. As they say different stroke for different folks.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

I didn't even attempt ATG for the first 6-7 months. Granted I wasn't SR shaving but 2-3 days a week (that time constraint thing). I still just go 2 stokes on my neck. The ATG everywhere else isn't BBS yet, but it's getting better every week.
I'm happy with how my technique is starting to get dialed in, and I know I've got a ways to go...but Man O Man am I loving the journey!
JerKeep it safe and Cheers,

So, I did not shave on my two days off and had a nice thick growth to remove. Chose my 5/8 Aust as I really like to listen to it popping hairs on a thick beard. Another two pass, little better than DFS shave. Think I will be saving my four pass shaves for special events and just doing a daily two pass.
Did the four pass for over two years and never really considered doing less, until now.

I'm also in favor of the 2-pass shave (WTG, ATG) except that I do an extra pass around the chin and mustache (WTG, XTG, and ATG). I'm also one who only shaves every other day for comfort's sake.

For me it's 2 pass on cheeks and neck and a third on the mustache and chin area, 1 wtg cheeks and neck, 1 ATG cheeks and neck, 1 wtg on the mustache and chin area, 1 XTG mustache and chin and 1 Across the grain mustache and chin area.
