We're not talking about tools that do different jobs, we're talking about a razor, and if it's honed right, stropped right, and used right then it does the job everywhere. ,there's something to be said for doing it the way it's always been done, like for instance for the longest time the way to shoot a gun is with the barrell pointed away from you, but I guess you can try turning it around and see how that works out! But as to using more than one razor I always bring 2 with me, just in case one ain't up to snuff , then I,ll change but not just to have 2 different types. Tc

Although I don't use multiple straights during the same shave, I will touch up with a DE if required. That being said, I do agree that different blades perform better with different applications. I can see why you would do this, I just haven't thought to try it myself.

Admittedly, in my first two straight shaving weeks I continued to use my open comb safety razor for the last cleanup pass to achieve that (then) elusive BBS shave that I was after.
But these days are long gone and I now use two passes plus some minor touch-up on the jaw line with any one of my straights to get the same results.

A 5/8 might be more maneuverable on the jaw line, a 7/8 or 8/8 might work somewhat more efficiently on the flatter parts of my face, but in the end the differences in handling are not substantial enough for me to justify using more than one razor for the shave and I doubt that anybody would be able detect any difference in the end result.

But what does matter to me is that I stick to the basics of the time honored tradition of straight shaving, without making it overly complex, introducing complications whose benefit are doubtful, or otherwise attempt to elevate it to an art form that it was never meant to be.

And I am convinced that anyone who follows the same path to a simple, traditional shave will ultimately find such variations superfluous too.
