Thanked: 0I had to finish a shave with a cartridge blade today. First time in several months.
Early this morning, I mowed the lawn and edged the grass with a gas weed-wacker. After a shower, my hands were still trembling from weed-wacker vibration. Also, it's so darn humid that I couldn't pull my skin into position as needed because it just kept slipping away. I got 2/3 of the way through a str8 shave and and gave-up in the interest of safety.
I grazed-over the whole shave with the cartridge blade.
End result: The shave with a cartridge was faster but, no better. My stubble spots are still there.

Thanked: 150This is the exact scene that I was thinking about.
I too used disposable razors while on vacation because I did not have anywhere to store my razors away from the fingers of three little girls, so I got some Bic disposable for the safety of my daughters. The save was horrible, altough I did take my cream and brush, so I smelled great (according to my wife). The only time I will use those is to protect little fingers when there is nowhere to safely store my straight.

Thanked: 1587Well, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum. What might be right for you may not be right for some.
When I go on trips, now I always take my wapi. So if it gets lost, I won't be so unhappy.
(All together now....)
'Cause it takes, diff'rent strokes.
It takes, diff'rent strokes.
It takes, diff'rent strokes to move the world.

I always get an inferior shave with anything but a straight, now that the learning curve has smoothed out.
But i do use a shavette (focus blade razor) for travelling abroad with as it wont upset me much to loose it as it would to loose one of my straights.
It doesnt give me such a lasting shave but its better than the other DE's&twin blades ive used.Paul

I've used a double-bladed store-brand cartridge and canned goo once since I went straight.. We were staying in Saskatoon and the razor/strop that I sent ahead with our work gear was trapped in Hanger #3 of the Saskatoon airport, while my stubble was accumulating. Knowing all the wet-shaving tricks helped keep irritation away and the shave was about as unsatisfying as a can of spam after years of daily doses of prime medium-rare ribeye, but it did the trick. Ofcourse, I was drooling when we got to Yellowknife and I could finally break out the Wapi and my trusty ol' strop and go for the real thing (minus the plastic bristled travel brush lol)

I hadn't pulled it out for months but I used my Gem 1912 single edge safety yesterday (and today, since I'm already confessing ) and it was a really nice smooth shave - and for me, without the blasphemous guilt of using a disposable or multi-blade cartridge!!

I haven't used a cartridge since I picked up straightrazor shaving again almost a year ago.
When I was a student I always used a shavette and I had forgotten to pack it for holiday in the german black forest.
I shaved with a combat knife because I didn't feel like wimping out
I got some stares in the communal youth hostel bathroom, but other than that it shaved reasonably well.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 1Well I don't have that much of a dislike for carts where I swear them away. It's kinda fun to try having with them again, with all these I got laying around. I just wouldn't buy any more ever again.
What's more interesting to me, other than a straight or DE just being better is how the stubble doesn't come back as quick with a straight, while the cartridge razors can give me a BBS, though the BBS is gone in a few hours.
