The muzzle area is probably the hardest area to shave so take your time and use a DE if you don't feel comfortable.
Even with my big conk I can still use a 8/8 easy enough for my top lip. (I do grow a tasche now and again) I use a scooping sweep for want of a better word for the 1st pass at 45 degrees to my nose and straight down xtg for the 2nd pass.
For my chin I go straight down then at 45 degrees which is atg. I make sure I really stretch my skin too.

I’ve seen videos of fellows using their breath to inflate their upper lip and the area between the lower lip and chin to stretch the skin for a closer shave. YouTube can be very helpful.

I do that with my cheeks. I have to sort of correct what I said before about having the mustache since I was 17. A few years ago my wife had been asking about shaving it since she had never seen me without it. I took it back to nothing with the clipper. She took one look and said, "grow that back as fast as you can!" Apparently it reminded her of my brother whom she is none too fond of.

My father used to tell about his grandfather who would shave his off only if he was mad at his wife. Apparently she used to say that "his mouth looked like a chicken's @$$ hole."

Some claim that the "barber's notch was made to facilitate shaving around the nostrils but I have never done it so I can neither confirm nor deny that accusation.

Yes I think this may be the case. For me the barbers notch makes getting round the nostrils a breeze. But my nose has been busted up a bit.

    Hi fellas,

Been quite a while since I’ve checked in.

STF - Here’s a video from SRP founder Lynn Abrams that demonstrates how to shave, including the chin. (He doesn’t shave off his mustache, but does describe how that is done, too.) Do a YouTube search for: “Best How to Shave with a Straight Razor Tutorial for Beginners Straight Razor Designs.com” (Couldn’t successfully imbed the URL for the video in this message.)

That video helped me a lot when I was learning to shave with a straight razor, and I still pretty much shave like he shows. I’ve been clean shaven for a almost 20 years now after my better half said how much she liked me without a beard or mustache.

    Best Regards,
    Jeff

Upper lip, lower lip and chin get 2 passes: WTG and ATG. I curl my lips around my teeth to tighten the skin. If your razor is sharp enough you needn't use much force and the chance of nicking your nose is smaller.

I just can't use two hands, feels weird.

Personally I puff air in to stretch places, or stick my tongue in there. I find your method is not at issue as long as it's taught.

You'd be surprised how much you have to relearn after thirty some years, when you have all your teeth pulled, then loosing a 100 lbs. Puffin cheeks, using the tongue, skin stretching places you've never had too, ect.

But its all good.! Its just like starting over, but with knowledge, good edges, and not shakin like a dog crapping razor blades.

I would say I couldn't ever shave with both hands but really it's more that I just felt comfortable enough with just my dominant hand that I never pushed that envelope.

I've used both hands to shave since day 1.

It didn't occur to me not too and I couldn't shave with either hand anyway.

I think I would probably have trouble trying to shave with one hand now.
