Rinsing the razor
I was wondering whether you use cold or hot water to rinse your razor during the shave. I heard cold water preserves the edge somewhat. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Thanked: 155I use hot water. It makes no difference to the edge. Even boiling water (212 deg F) would have no effect on the hardness of steel.

I rinse my razor in VERY hot water after cleaning it, then strop it on a clean ,dry towel to get it dry. Set it up on a safe place to sry for a while before putting it away. my thoughts are the hot blade dries quicker..

I rinse with hot H2O,Towel dry and then use a hair dryer to dry my razor after use.I worry about moisture around the pivot pin.

i use hot water long enough to warm the metal. towel dry, blow out the pivot pin to get moisture out and leave out in another room (not the moist bathroom) to dry. the water temp has more to do with how fast it will dry out (hotter is faster) than anything else IMO.

I never really let my straights get exposed to running water. I keep the faucet off while shaving so as to keep the water bill down. As I shave, I wipe the lather off on a beer cooler, see this thread, http://straightrazorpalace.com/showt...545#post189545 . This lessens exposure to water and the chance of banging my straight on the basin or faucet. The moisture from the shaving lather would be minimal and I use a couple of squares of tissue paper to wipe the blade when I'm done. IMO, any residual lather (which would be minut) woulld be high in alkalinity (low acidity) and not harm the blade. The oils and lotions that make up most soaps and creams would coat the blade and not harm it until the next use. Once again, any leftover soap on the blade would be very tiny and almost no at all. I can wipe the blade pretty good with a couple of sheets of tissue so my blade still looks shiny.

Thanked: 5I think a hot blade is important while shaving to keep your pores from closing, and also because it feels nice
You can have cold lather too if you want...but why when hot is so much better?

I can't see how it would make any difference, but I usually rinse
off the lather with warm water.

Hot water here! I prefer a hot blade over a cold one.

I use a towel to clean the blade in between, no running water touches the blade.
