By the way, has anyone seen any of the other versions of Sweeney Todd? There's the musical, obviously, but I know the BBC did a film a year or two ago as well.

I've seen the one that was on "Monsterpiece Theater" before, but it was a while back. If it weren't for the new one being a musical, I think that it would have been a lot better. I almost prefer the older one (which I think was more historically correct as well).

I will shave from my neck to jaw line (or beard line) in one smooth stroke. When I started, I used several small strokes. As I became more comfortable with the process, and got better razors, I started using more fluid passes. Jaw to neck, neck to jaw in one smooth pass, cheek to beard, beard to cheek in one smooth and fluid pass. Once day I will have to cut the shaped beard down to a goatee.

My grandfather was a barber a long time ago. He says he used long strokes, no idea how true what he says is though.
He says he shaved up to 100 people on Saturdays, so I guess he had lots of practice.

How true is any of this, I have no idea.

Last time I was in trumpers, a couple of months ago, I asked about this as I'd read that they trained him to use a straight. I actually got told to shut up by my friends in the cinema when I complained he was doing it wrong.

I was told that he was given training by one of the senior barbers but didn't actually do anything, he was shown and then all communication was done through his assistant. The chap I spoke to seemed very dismissive of him, which seems a little odd to me, when he's supposed to be one of the more approachable and least 'superstar' actors out there. Then again, who knows how creative minds work

I don't know if this is apocryphal, but that's what I was told by the guy in the store.

As an aside, during the filming they halted production when his daughter fell seriously ill and was treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Earlier this year someone leaked the story that he had quietly donated $1million dollars to the hospital as a thank you for their hard work and care. It was also discovered that he'd had his Jack Sparrow outfit flown over from Disney's prop shop and turned up on the wards at GOSH where he sat telling pirate stories to the kids for quite some time. None of this was advertised. He really does seem to be a genuinely nice guy.
