Thanked: 13245Ya gotta pay Attention!!!!
I have to tell you the whole story here to explain...
Last summer I put in a new blower fan in one of the propane heater stoves in the house...
About a month ago I start hearing a rapid thunk thunk thunk from the stove, so I swear at the blower fan thinking it is going out again and the up coming chore of changing it again...
I tell the wife to listen for it while I'm at work, she later tells me no problems...
Hmmmm I think to myself she wasn't paying attention
Well sure enough every morning at about 6:30 am, thunk thunk thunk,
only at that time, does the fan act up..
Well about 4 days ago, the wife in a womanly moment of brilliance says, "Honey, that sounds like a wood pecker" I think to myself "Yep she's an idiot, why would a wood pecker be pecking at a metal stove pipe on the roof"....
Well I go outside the next morning and sure enough there is a frigging wood pecker standing on the very top of the pipe thunk thunk thunking on the metal pipe cap... STUPID BIRD
So with my tail between my legs, I have to tell her that she was right, and in a manly moment, grab the 20ga. and head outside to kill this offending little ......
Well that didn't work, he was gone before I could even bring the gun to shoulder..
So as I get ready to shave this morning, I have the lather made, lather up, strop the razor, and THUNK THUNK THUNK I am shaking my head as a decide this bird is so gonna die. In that one second of inattention to that very sharp Real Red Point Razor at my face, I now have a nice slice in my cheek...
So I say to you all,,,,,, Pay attention to that edge at all times
Oh and trust me I am so hunting that bird down tomorrow morning !!!!!!

Used to have wood siding on this house (t-11) and the side nearest the bird feeder looked like a machine gun had been taken to it. We get Downey wood peckers, Red-headed woodpeckers, Red-bellied woodpeckers, Yellow Bellied sapsuckers, and even Pileated wood peckers around here. I think I've seen common flickers as well. Lets just say that sometimes it sounds likea lumberyard out back.

Now, also imagine that annoying laugh that Woody had, and you get the pic of what gssixgun had to put up with during his shave....

Thanked: 1587Haha! I was thinking it sounded like the introductory scene in a Woody Woodpecker cartoon - watch it six, maybe Woody has started doing candid camera to make ends meet.

I kind of know what your talking about but I wish, ohh do I wish it was a bird that was the culprit in my situation. We have an out building that seems to attract squirrels and I mean lot, maybe 5 families. Next to it are a line of nut bearing tree so I understand why they like the area. They mock our cat to the point where it jumps at the window to scar them and they don't even budge, just look at it like (OH The Big Bad Cat is trying to eat me). So it's come to this trap on the top deck, as they jump from the trees to the roof and then down to the ledges and windows around the house...where the cat follows dashing from room to room in pursuit.
The cat likes to do all of this where ever I am with my razor, I've closed the door and that solves the problem when I remember. I've yet to cut myself when it bursts into the room, but I can sense it coming.
Kind regards,

Thanked: 23It's a mating thing, I think
I think it's a mating issue, the wood pecker attacking metal that is. It seems to only happen around certain times of the year, but they just love steel roofs as well.
Oh, and be careful you don't fill your stovepipe full of holes.

Thanked: 16Without a permit, it is against Federal Law to kill a songbird, which a woodpecker is classified as being.
I know this probably won't change your mind over what you'll do in the end, I'm just letting you know, FWIW.
