And in some ways the antithesis of this is the water only pass mentioned by Mike, using warm or not hot water.
This creates less skin inflammation when shaving so it cuts down the hairs closer to the skin.
That, and the drying effect of the whisker making it smaller can create some interesting post shave effects.

Cold water shrinkage?
I've experienced this same thing pretty often (with a DE, that is - still waiting for a chance at a straight!)
I figured it might be due to the very thorough, very cold rinse I finish with. It sort of "feels" like my skin puffs back up a little later resulting in the BBS.
Anybody had it happen without a cold water rinse?

I get this a lot. Like Mike, I usually do a "semi-ATG" touch-up pass only in 1 or 2 tricky areas to get it really close all over. Alcohol AS splash seems to expedite it, at least for me.
