I have exactly the same growth pattern and have yet to find the right solution. Like you, I've resigned myself to two passes on the neck, both across the grain but in different directions.

My 2 additional cents....

Try to fold the Str8 at its extreme position and keep it that way to shave... It is a little difficult and it does look odd, and you will certainly not reach all the hair.... but.... you know... that was my 2 additional cents...
