Thread: Everyday razor?

I never use the same razor 2 days in a row. I have 5 favorites in the rotation. Each has its strong points and weak points. None are the same. And I rarely FEEL the same everyday.

Thanked: 35126 ready to go razors here, 6 brushes, 14 creams and about a dozen different soaps......<sigh> I have to fight the urge to use just 2 razors, 1 brush and 1 soap....... If I allow myself to do what I want, I'll use just one junker razor until it's too dull and then grab the other (same brand strangely enough) and use that until the original one is honed back up and ready to go.... I literally have to force myself to use the others here and there, but I always seem to go back to the two old reliables...... probably because they were the first two razors I successfully honed to my satisfaction and the fact that as junkers, I wouldn't feel all that bad if I dropped one or nicked the edge... I do have a nice Joe Chandler that I'd love to shave with all the time but it's so shiny and nice..........<sigh>.
Back when I shaved with DE razors, it was a religious rotation of creams/brushes/blades and razors.... somehow, it no longer seems to matter... only that I shave with a straight matters!

After reading all those replies, I really want more than one razor!!! I've already written up a christmas list of shaving things that I would like to get.... If only I had more money so I could buy all those things now instead of having to wait........ But then again, who wouldn't want more money to buy more razors??

I only used one razor for several years, and mostly, unless one needs a lot of touch honing, then I'll use another. I usually use the same razor everyday (or just about) for about a month or so, then I'll switch to honed up one. But like the other has said, having two is ideal, incase you happen to drop one and chip it.

One razor is fine, but it's at least good to have a backup in case something happens to your daily, you've got somewhere to go.

I have two shave ready, but I don't like how one shaves me, compared to the other, and they are the only two I've tried. I was worried that after however long its been (at least a couple of months) the daily needed honing. I remembered that the starter strop I had bought had green paste on the backside. I ran about 20 strokes on there, then the other side about 30-40. I don't know how the hanging hair test is supposed to be done but if I take one of my wives hairs it still cuts fine. has a little ping sound kinda. anyways, I now feel rushed though to get some others shave ready, just in case.
I got major addiciton and went from 2 old inherited razors to 16 more!!! but thought about it and am going to pair it down and work on getting "fewer nicer". there's a U-Tube video where a guy straight shaves and his razor is gorgeous. A few that when I'm shaving I can really admire in the mirror and I'll be fine.
till then, same razor every day (actually about 4 days a week, I don't shave fri-sun unless something special going on).
