    Default Everyday razor?

    Hey everyone,

I was wondering how many of you used the same razor daily. I only have one straight razor so far, so I have to use the same razor everyday. I know there are different "myths" floating around about resting your blade, allowing the microscopic teeth to realign themselves, yadda yadda yadda... Somewhere I read someone post that if you wanted to shave daily, you should have at least 2 razors in your rotation to avoid using the same razor 2 days in a row...

So does anyone use the same razor for mutliple days in a row??? Does it affect shave quality if you do???

That's normally my MO. I'll typically get attached to one particular razor and shave with it daily for a month or two or until the edge needs refreshing, then put it aside and go on to another one exclusively for awhile. Weird, but I don't seem to have interest in using a new razor each day in a continuous rotation. I've been using a DD Dwarf as my go to razor for months and only recently swapped it out for a Larkin extra hollow that's holding its own. I just keep going back to that DD though!

I use a few razors throughout the week but when I started out I was using the same razor daily. I don't think you need to worry to much about resting your blade unless your a barber and do multiple shaves a day then it might be a concern.

My favorite shave is a TI and I've used it daily a lot. I recently aquired a Dovo and started rotating them but I keep coming back to the TI...probably because I haven't got the Dove honed to where I want it yet.

I've noticed no difference in using the TI every day vs every other day. The only reason I can see for multiple razors is delaying the need to re-hone as long as possible. As tough as my beard is I need to hit the hones monthly whereas if I had a 7 day set I would only need to hone a couple times a year. So I guess you can pick your poison...hone one razor a month or several at a time (or in rapid succession if they don't all go dull at the same time) or some variation on that theme depending on frequency of use.

In the beginning I only had one Klaas to shave with, no trouble whatsoever.

One razor is all you will ever need.

    I currently have seven...

I used to rotate on a weekly basis, using one razor for a full week before going to the next. No problemo whatsoever. Just strop that bad boy and go.

That was when I had only three razors. Now that I have more, I sort of just go for the "flavor of the day", whichever one appeals to me at the time.

You may choose sanity, and a single razor, and be a happy, happy man.

Or you can try all sorts of different razors, enjoy the different sensations of a full hollow, wedge, 1/4 hollow, stainless........you get the idea....there can be a remarkable difference in the feel of the shave between two razors. As long as they are honed correctly, they all will give you a nice shave, but they will feel different on your face.

But then you will spend all your late evening hours prowling Ebay for vintage blades, scouring the classifieds here at SRP along with the rest of the nutcases here...

    Enjoy!

One razor? har, Har, Har. Sorry. Actually I can remember way back when I only had one.

Its nice to have two just in case your one and only needs honing or rescue work and your in a hurry but otherwise the business about resting is just an old barbers tale.
