Hot towels from the microwave when I cant shower first (2-3 towels) but thats a rarity, like Lee if I cant do it immediately after a shower it isnt worth doing, the best beard hydration is in the hot steaming shower!
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 9I've got a gas water heater and, though the thermostat is set to a moderate tempature, I get tap water that's hotter than I can stand. No microwaves or coffee pots for me.
I can get a decent shave using 3 or 4 hot towels in my pre-shave routine but it doesn't compare to a shave right after a hot shower.

Thanked: 7My better half treated me to a product the other day by the 'Real Shaving Company' called step 1 Self Heating Face Mask which their own blurb describes as "The 21st century hot towel treatment! This mineral clay mask can be applied straight to the beard area where it warms gently softening the beard..." and it most definitely contributes towards a smooth shave maybe not quite as much as a succession of lovely hot towels but when you need to be reasonably quick with your shave I can definitely recommend it! I apply it, strop my blade, work up lather then remove the mask product with warm water and then crack on as usual
Plus it doesn't steam up the mirror! And that in it's self allows me to have a better shave

Now THAT sounds like a pretty cool product. I could see it coming in really handy for me, I think I'll give it a shot!

I keep an old rice steamer under the sink. It works in perfect time while I shower. I used to use the thin towels but have opted for thicker ones lately as they hold the heat much longer. I've also used two at a time towels from Classic Shaving. I use towels only when I'm not pressed for time.
