I tried olive oil just to compare it to TAOS oil, and TAOS was much better, compared to it the olive oil didn't do squat (under the lather that is, dunno how it would have worked on it's own...

Have anyone tried baby-oil? I read something about it somewhere here, but can't seem to find it again.

I will have to steal my wife's baby oil she uses for make up removal and try that. Thanks for the idea (I promise I won't tell my wife you gave me the idea)

Don't see any reason why not. That being said I have to say I don't use pre-shave oil anymore. I still have a half bottle of T&H oil. What with the hot shower, lather, hot towel and then re-lather I am not sure when would be the best time. And, to be perfectly honest, I found the pre-shave oil wasn't doing anything more to get my face ready for the shave anyway. My shave prep work accomplishes what I want.

Pre & post shave with Baby oil. Read some of my SOTD. I have started to mix baby & olive oil together as a pre & post shave splash... Makes my face feel great, plus I smell like a swim-suite model in a Italian Deli.

I'll heat up the mixture in a cup that I put in the sink of hot water as I take my shower. Then when I get out I rub it all over my face, feels nice and warm and holds moisture just right. After my shave is done and just before I clean up I'll splash it on again. This time when it's cooled to room temp. Nice feeling.

*Note: I have always rubbed in baby oil after I shave my head. Not with a str8 razor tho.
