For the cold, dry, windy Rochester winter, I've found that applying a balm (I use Nivea extra soothing) in the morning and at night in addition to after I shave helps quite a bit.

I've only been shaving "properly" for a week or so, so I can't really add much, but I've noticed that if you rub lather into your beard as well when shaving it feels better when you go outside.
We're having a pretty mild winter this year, now it's -6C outside, but last week it was -18C when I went to work. I was kinda in love with the cabin-heater in my Volvo that morning (don't tell my GF)

I shave in the evening and my skin gets very dry in the upstate NY winters. I try to make sure my face has warmed up if I was out on a fire call or playing with the snowblower before getting ready for a shave. I had been putting a moisturizer on my face after a shave or using a shave balm to keep it from drying out as quickly. CarrieM make me some home made shave soap w/ lots of olive oil, shea butter and lanolin in it. THe foam dries out a little too quick but when I add some Poraso to it for an uberlather the results are amazing. THis shave cream keeps my face nice and moist for a long time. So, in the cold weather I try to keep my face and hands from drying out. Other than that it the same routine, a different blade, brush and AS every evening.

I use the wood stove as a giant scuttle and just put my lather bowl on it for a while.....Just kidding although it might work.Everything's the same except don't go out with a wet face....On a side note,I was out plowing on an open tractor for about an hour yesterday, with a ski mask on.It was so cold and windy,I was thinking of snapping off my ears and putting them in my pocket to warm them up.

Thanked: 74The only adjustment I made was to switch from Proraso to Col Conk Almond. Feels warmer.
I've been playing around with shaving shortly after comming in from the cold, so far I have not noticed too much difference. This is probably more because of my hit or miss technique than anything tho.

I used to live by this motto concerning beard growth
"First snow it grows..
First crow it goes! "
Did that for many years, but now I am clean shaven....
and freezing!

Harumph!. . Not as cold as in there but I do change my routine a little bit when the emperature drops under the zero. I go to work by bike and in cold it really dries my face more even the trip is 5 km.
I shave every day all year long so no changes in that section.
Then what do I change?.... In a cold winter time the skin cells dries up more faster and it brings more dead cells on to my face. That cells prevents me to get a better shave so I have to get rid of them before shaving. I add a extra face wash in the shower which exfoliate the dead cells gently.
I use any kind of facial cleanser not a soap because soap dries the skin more than a cleanser. At this time I use Anthony logistics facial cleanser.
Allright then comes the regular shave without any remarkable changes.
After shave routine is also a little different. Check out this. In wintertime I use splash and some stronger balms or moisturising creme. Basic balms are not enough for me.
Moisturising creme keep the skin more soft and prevents skin to produce dead cells better than just basic balms.
Our record in northern Finland was couple of years ago -52 degrees. In southern was about that -35 degrees. Thank god I don't live in north and if it's up to me I'll try to move more south.
