I use the Nivea balm also!! It works wonderfully. I use the Body Shop Maca Root Shave Cream.
It seems the people on this thread exercise good judgement.

Thanked: 9Nivea shave balm works best for me. Also, it's not super cheap, but a little goes a long way.

Thanked: 235To all you Canadians who are suffering through a harsh winter.
It has been a hard winter here for Thais too. Many provinces were declared a disaster area because of the incredibly cold temperatures. On some nights it got down to 15 c.

Thanked: 4942It's funny what the cold weather does to dry out your skin. I always shower before shaving and use a scuttle so that the lather stays hot throughout the shave. I have been using Castle Forbes as well to ensure a nice thick lather through out the shave. The one thing I definitely notice though is that it seems like I really have to go back and touch up my problem areas like the hollow between my jaw and chin.......don't know why. When I am first done shaving my face always feels sticky smooth. I then apply a nice balm this time of year like a DR Harris or Baxter (a lot like skin food). The face then is really nice, but then I feel the lightest of light stubble in a couple areas as the balm soaks in. After a little while and the natural oils come back into the face, I am back to baby butt smooth for hours.
The Gold Bond also gets a heck of a work out this time of year........

When I lived home in Norway I would shave in the evenings (before I got a str8) it helps because the face has got some time to replace the oils removed by the soap. Also don't wash your face with soap in the morning.

15C? Think you missed a minus there pal?
Seriously, it does take some getting used to, but anything between -10C and -25C feels kinda the same, as long as it stays in that region for a while. What I hate is -5C after a warm spell, then the air is still moist so the cold gets a better bite. At the lower temps the moisture is already gone, so there's nothing to really bite you.
I've noticed that my lips dry out as hell every winter so nowadays I keep a small jar of petroleum jelly in my back pocket just for that...

Up until 3 years ago, I lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota. I would try to shave every other day if possible. It was just to darn cold and my face would seem to freeze immediately upon contact with the elements!
