    Default First Shave

Breaking the 9 yr old Grandson in Right.

Of course, he thinks there is a blade in that DE.

BTW, I know the lather is on the thin side. But for his first lesson with a Str8 I didn't spend too much time on the stirring. Instead, before lathering up, we drilled on the proper holding and positioning of the blade. I wanted to make damn sure he had control of the blade with this first lesson.

That blade is dull, I hope .

I "shaved" my youngsters once, with a completely butter-knife-dull razor. They particularly liked swirling the brush with the hot lather.

Looks like you're having quality time with your grandson. He's lucky with such a granddad. As long as that razor's dull...

I hope the opposite, after all there is nothing more dangerous than a dull knife or razor.

I wish MY grandfather had taught me how to shave with a straight. As it was, I found his (broken scales, damaged-blade) razor in his personal effects after he died. He'd gone to a DE years before, and then to cheap cartridge disposables for as long as I'd known him. I hadn't started shaving with a straight yet, but I knew a good find when I saw one. It went into my pocket back then and it's now stashed for when I have the time and resources for a good restore job.

But this makes me look forward to teaching my own sons and grandsons. Thanks.
