Shaving Celibacy
I've been hooked, bad. Aside from spending every free minute (and some that shouldn't be free...) on this forum, I absolutely cannot shave with anything but a straight!
I sent my only usable razor to be honed up, and figured I'd just cope with my Norelco or Fusion for a week or two...
It's been three days, and as much as I hate stubble, I haven't shorn my beard off. I just can't bring myself to. I played in a performance of Ein Deutches Requiem today with a stubbly beard.
That's saying something.

I argee in that I'd never go back to a cartridge. Though I do keep a DE around just in case I need a shave to look presentable but don't have time to have a proper shave. It's certainly no replacement for a straight, but it's miles ahead of a cartridge.

As soon as I have the funds I have a Torrey I'm going to have honed up....but I should also see about procuring and learning to use a DE. I'm a little frightened by just how scuzzy this next week could be!

Thanked: 3795Okay, I'll take that as a hint that I should hurry up with the honing!

I'm awfully impressed that I already have an eval of the razor from you! I'm glad its in the condition you describe- I was kind of afraid that the problems were all in my head, or my technique or something. That's you'd get it and say "Gee, this razor is sharp. What's his problem?"
Like I said in the PMs, no rush. Although I can't hardly wait to have a SR shave with a truly shave ready blade!

Thanked: 735Dude, now is the time to fully justify to yourself going out and buying another razor!
And another....
And another....
And another....
And another....
repeat as needed...

I currently have $20 in my slush fund until June.
I'm trying to be reasonable, and not buy a razor.
Its really, really hard.
Thank GOD they aren't shave ready on ebay, or that 20 would be gone STAT.
OTOH, I could use it to get my Torrey honed....they're good razors, right?

Dangnabbit! I just bought a Wostenholm off the 'bay. Scales are nasty, worm-eaten horn, and the blade looks potentially sketchy.
But it was $10...
I'm a woodworker by job and hobby....
The blade doesn't look too bad...
Lord have mercy, this must be RAD!

Thanked: 3795You have a PM!
About the Torreys, yes they are good razors. Most American razors have excellent steel and, in my opinion, the Torreys are one of the best of the American razors.

Thanked: 293Be glad you don't have the funds. I have the funds and there has been no limit to my spending. Utopian... I'm curious to hear what you think of the shape of the two Wostenholms I sent you. I thought they were great, but I'm just a rookie.
