Thanked: 0Shaving Oils
Hey fellas its been awhile since I have been here but for the record I am still shaving away!!
I am looking at trying out some shaving oils. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to get? I have read that they will give a fella a great smooth face when done as it lets the blade slide across you skin more easily and helps your skin? I am interested in whats best and different smells? Oh and of course where to buy it?
Thanks in advance!

most is high dollar stuf, you can make your own with sweet almond oil and the essential oil of your choice i put about 1/4 oz. to 6 oz of almond oil it works great , even helps thes old wrinkes fade away some.

Thanked: 1I don't always bother with oil but when I do I use an olive/castor oil 50/50 mix. It works as good as top dollar stuff I've used.
I always use hot towels after applying, then lather & shave.
I don't bother with smell as soap and aftershave are pongy enough.

Thanked: 0Ok thanks for all the ideas but I do not want a home remedy. All I want to know is where can I get an assortment of shaving oils?
Ronnie Brown nice idea but could you explain essential oils? Where do you get that? For that matter where do you get the almond oil?
Thanks

There are a few sellers on the ebay that I have bought essential oils from, all in one place. You can get EO like eucalyptus and cinnimon, etc, but they sell carrier oils as well, like jojoba oil (best for skin) grape seed, avocado oil, and probably olive oil and castor. I personally like this seller. I also use jojoba on gut strings, as well as my hands and face. The stuff is awesome.
As well, try Bulk Herbs, Alternative medicine, Craft Supply, Herbal Medicine, they have some of the best prices.
or, Mountain Rose Herbs | Bulk organic herbs, spices & essential oils, both have a very good selection of herbs, oils, and clays.
Hope it helps.

Olive oil for real? Just put olive oil on face... then shave?

not a lot. It's my understanding that the oil helps moisturize the skin, so the razor just slips over it and through the hair. you don't want oil ON your skin, but you want it absorbed INTO the skin, so don't use a lot. Some say too much will gunk up your brush. For this reason oils like jojoba oil or the more expensive argan oil are preferred as they absorb so quickly into the skin. Aloe I believe absorbs the quickest has excellent properties for the skin, but isn't an oil technically. Then lather, hot towel, then relather, then shave. That's just what I've read and try to apply to my own routine.

I'd recommend the cheapest you can find, more because in my experience, oil interferes too much with the skin stretching and gives nothing positive to the shave. I used to use it on my head where stretching is not as important as the face for me but the last time I shaved there I didn't bother and it worked fine. Not the most useful of posts but my two pennies.

Shave oils
Hello, Wooky,
By shave oils I assume you mean pre-shave oils.
I have used three commercial brands, two of which I like and use regularly.
I like the Truefitt & Hill pre-shave oil. It good texture and is not all that oily. It does help with my shave. The price is a bit hefty, though, but then the world of wet shaving is on the pricey side, anyway.
I also like the popular Proraso pre-shave balm, which also can be used for after the shave. It does have a strong eucalyptus fragrance, which is not offensive, and since it washes off, it does not interfere with your aftershave.
Casswell-Massey also has a pre-shave oil. It is good and it helps the shave, but I find it a tad too oily for me.
Aside from these, I have used good old olive oil, too, but somehow I couldn never shake off the feeling I was walking around with salad dressing on my mug.
Regards,
Obie
