Thanked: 0I'm new to Forum .
Hello all. I'm brand new to the board. Not to the site, however. I've read and learned a bit. I've been shaving with a str8 for just 2 and a half months.
It goes without saying -- I'll never go back to a safety razor.
I'd like to thank Lynn for his video. I got more from that video than just learning technique. What I really got out of it was his confidence and matter of factness that he imparted on his demo. It gave me the confidence I needed to pick up my razor and scrape some lather off my face, as they say.
(Thanks, Lynn)
I asked the staff at ClassicShaving.com what suggestions they had given the my time constraints and budget. They suggested a Feather razor. I must say I'm happy with it, but I wonder if it's the same as a regular str8.
What are your thoughts ? Should I ever have to "upgrade" or is the quality of the razor and shave the same ?
I do admire the decor on some of the regular razors.
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Feather user.

If you're happy with it, what else matters?
I'm a new str8 shaver too and I started with a regular str8 but got a Feather so I could shave while I was learning to sharpen. My observation is that it's sharper and has a little less drag than any ordinary str8. This was confirmed by Chris Moss. I'm told that even Lynn has said that it's as sharp as any ordinary str8.
What it comes down to is what you're looking for. Do you want to shave or do you want to play? If you want to shave you've got the ideal solution- a str8 with the convenience of a DE. If you want to play, that's something else.
There's a whole mystique to str8s, their history and maintaining them. The learning curve for maintaining is much steeper than learning to shave. A huge chunk of the messages here deals with that and if you want to be part of that you need to play.
And then there's the matter of collecting razors, but I won't get into that, because it's an illness that's rampant here.

Welcome feather user. I think it is a matter of choice but for me I enjoy the challange of a str8. For example if you buy from ebay you have the challange of honing it so it is sharp enough. There is also more to blad about in general if you use a str8.

Thanked: 4942I think the Feather comes as close to shaving with a traditional straight razor as any disposable razor made. I believe that you can get a shave just as close with a traditional straight razor. Personal preference does come into play. The feather does have more weight than the other disposables also. The real difference is the feel of the blade itself for me. I have to be more careful with my Feather.....lol. Lynn
