Take a look at new blades and see if there is anything you like, bookmark those. (they aren't really going anywhere...most of the time)

Then take a look at the classifieds for a couple-3 days. If something comes up that you really like- pounce on it. Some of the blades that show up here are really nice and not nearly as expensive as some of the new ones out there.

That's the rout I took and I ended up getting a blade from here.

    Talking I took the plunge

I bought two razors and a strop from the classifieds. A Case Red Imp 133 & a 11/16 Kircher Bro. STR8 Solingen Germany. Both are supposed to be shave ready. Tomorrow I find out about the Kircher, the Red Imp isn't here yet. I like the strop too. It's a DOVO 3" wide. It's like Christas in June!

You can look forward to shaving. In fact, many years of shaving with the same razor or razors. Part of the fun is exploring the different designs of razors, different sizes 1/2, 3/4, 7/8, etc and the beauty of the handles. I use very thin French razors, Wade and Butchers, Torreys, etc. and enjoy the different feel each has and the shave they give. Have fun!

The sides of the spine are worn flat from honing but the razor still does a good job. It is time to consider getting a second razor and put the heirloom in semi retirment. I don't know whether to by a brand new Dovo or by a shave ready used razor.

What do you want and what can you afford usually determines my purchases. BTW can you trim your ear hair with a straight yet?
