5 O'Clock Shadow
Everyday even immediately after my closest shaves, I still have that five o'clock shadow on my cheeks and chin. They're smooth as silk from every direction, but the stubble is still visible - so much so that I can see the grain of its growth. How about you guys (and gals?

I'm in the "other" camp with about 12 hours before I can see a bit of a shadow here and there.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I get my 5 O'clock shadow exactly at 5 O'clock about 2 days after the shave.
I'm blond and have a very light beard.. so I theres not that much to see..

Normally it's 10-12 hours. So when I shave at 7 am I know what's up at about 5 pm.
Fortunately I often can shave bit later (10 am or so) and therefore I have the feeling the shave lasts longer

I am in the dark beard cattagory the growth is always visible even just after shaving,but my beard is smooth to the touch for about 7to 12 hours depending on the quality of shave i go for.ie BBS or clean shaven.Paul

I have a thick, dark beard and pale skin, so there's always something, particularly on my neck. Still BBS for 8-12 hours, though.

I too have dark hair on light skin so the shadow never completely goes away. However, I noticed something interesting recently while dabbling with a DE. With the DE I could get a shave that looked closer than two passes with a straight but felt rougher than the two passes from the straight. It must have to do with the angle at which the hair is cut. It raises an interesting question: is there some method (some sort of skin stretching perhaps) that can make a shave look but not necessarily feel close? Most of the time, for just going to work, I would go for a shave that just looked close.
Note: I did three passes with the DE and it left more irritation than a straight usually leaves.
