HELP!!!!!!
Good morning!
I need help.
I have 4 knives, 2 Dovo Philharmonic and 2, all knives are 6 / 8, also have a shavette in which I use as blade Gillette Blue.
my problem is that all my knives are the HHT, but when I will shave the shavette makes shaving a lot more soft than any of the 4 knives, I did a Strop of canvas and leather, I'm using Crox on Canvas and then use the leather.
I have done the following, using my razor to afio stones Norton, 1000, 4000, 8000, then use the Strop.
Poeque the knives will not pass through the HHT but when I cut myself shaving them unless Shavette.
I wanted a shave more soft and just as he can using Shavette, I would like to have the same shaving with razors, SRP's friends say the knife is soft during the shave. I have a tough beard.
Please help me where I might be missing?
The razor wire of the polished and well told through HHT.
Thanks
Ale.
Sorry for the mistakes but I'm using Google translator

No problem.
I think I have it.
How is your beard prep? Do you shower then shave? A hot shower or towel will help to soften the beard.
A 6/8 is fine for a heavy bead. Is it a full hollow razor? Shavettes are thinner and in my opinion sharper than a razor. I see nothing wrong with the stones that you are using.
Have you tried 100 laps on linen/canvas and 200 on leather? That will sometimes help.
I am a little unclear. Is your razor passing the HHT? Have you tried the TPT (Thumb pad test). A lot of times a razor will cut hair but not skin. You want it sharp enough to bite into your skin on the TPT. The HHT tells you that you are in the right area of sharpness but not there yet.
Hope this helps. What ever language that you speak there is probably someone her that speaks it. So go ahead in the native tongue and some one will translate if you are having difficulties with the translator.

My english isn't great ether. if i am not mistaken you are saying your blade isn't sharp enough. when you get your straight razor were they shave ready? From where did you buy your straight razor"s.have you ever had any blade sharpened by srp member's etc.
Try get 1 of your blade sharpened professionally and then shave with it see what happens.hope this helps.

+1n with Sham. I too would suggest having your blades professionally sharpened, then go from there. At least then, you can rule that out.
We have assumed control !

send 'em to a honemeister. no amount of stropping will fix a dull blade. if you're having to strop it 200x on leather, it needs a touch up anyway, imho.

Well, Ale lives in Brasil so sending his razors for honing may be a bit more complicated (expensive and time consuming) in this case. I understand that having a professionally honed razor is the way to go but perhaps this is one case where we may have to help him out to perfect his honing skills remotely, plus, he has the equipment. Have you watched Lynn honing videos? they can be found here: Videos - Straight Razor Place Forums There is a a good video from the SE gathering but I can't find it at the moment. I am no expert in honing but Ale, if I can help you with the English to Brasileiro translation, please send me a PM. If I cannot answer, I can probably ask somebody for you. Probably a person like Leon would be best for this. I am a fan of beard preparation but if I understood the post right, Ale has no trouble shaving with the Shavette, for which the beard preparation may not be the culprit in this case. Ale, also the HHT test is not particularly useful in some cases. By the way Ale, very nice job on your Filarmonica, I absolutely love the scales.

It would be nice to send a razor out for a proper hone. But, since you have hones and want to learn how to hone.
I think you should take one razor and hone it. Stay with that one razor and keep practicing the pyramid honing until you get it to shave. I learned that you have to take one razor and make it work. It may take 2 or maybe 10 tries to get it right but that is how you learn.
As you know, you have to set the bevel first, period. Do that with your 1000 Norton. Using very light and equal pressure on the hone. Watch the water in front of the razor, make sure you are pushing water the entire length of the razor while honing. This has to happen on both sides before moving to the 4000 grit hone. When you have done this you have set the bevel. Then do the same thing at 4000, then 8000. Pushing water in front of the entire length of the razor shows you the razor's edge is laying flat on the hone the entire length of the razor.
Practice is all it takes.
Good luck and hang in there.

Hello!
I do like the friend of the video.
I take a shower and let the water and warm on my face, use a pre shave oil and soap from Locctane.
I do all right but I do not know what happens, even yesterday I was using my Shavette Philharmonic and was much more soft.
If I sharpen a knife as you say, it will shave more than a soft Shavette?
Thanks
Ale
