What's Your Favorite Razor Size
Greetings Gentlemen,
I know this was covered earlier in a thread. I thought it might be useful to see your preferences in a poll form. So the question is this: What is your favorite razor size?

Thanked: 0Hi Rik,
given I am just a beginner in this trade, I am still wavering a bit between 6/8 and 5/8. But currently I like the better manoverability of the smaller blade.

I would like to add a 6/8 or 7/8 to my collection, but so far, I only have 4/8 and 5/8. Without a doubt, with these two options, I prefer the 5/8. Maybe that's just because I am a big guy!

Hi CU,
Like yourself I started out with 5/8 and still enjoy using them as they are very maneuverable.
Because my beard is very thick and course I find the heft of the larger blades are much more suited for my needs. When I use a 5/8 I try to use a vintage one that has more heft to it like a Crown & Sword, Lakeside, and many others.
The beauty of straight razor shaving is variety. Some mornings you'll feel like using a certain razor from your rotation for no particular reason. No logical reason other than 'just because' and you will more than likely have a very enjoyable shave.
Search the archives here and on the yahoo site. You'll find that these sites will become your most valuable tool/resource to successful straight shaving! Don't ever hesitate to ask questions. The wealth of information these guys have to offer is mind boggling - take advantage of it! Have a good one.Last edited by Rik; 10-10-2005 at 07:31 AM.

Favorite Razor Size
My favorite size is 5/8. Of course, that's the only size I have. I have 2 razors, a TI and a Dovo. I have a somewhat heavy beard and a couple days growth makes for a tough shave. I sent my razors to Lynn for a hone up, so I'll finally get to see what difference a sharp razor makes. My next razor will be a 6/8 or a 7/8. I'm undecided. Any suggestions??

Thanked: 79Tough call.
a few of my favorite razors are 6/8 or 7/8, but generally a 5/8 is plenty.
so I choose all of the above....depending on what make of razor.

I love 7/8's they seem to work for my beard
I have anywhere from 3/8 to 7/8. I use them all at different times.

Yeah, Rik
That's what I was thinking, too. My next razor will probably be a 6/8 TI Red Stamina. I really like TIs. I enjoy how the 5/8s feel in my hand and I like their maneuverability around my face. I think I'll eventually get a 7/8 and maybe even a 8/8 at somepoint. I like to shave, but I don't always get the chance to shave on weekends. So, after a couple days growth, I think it would be easier to shave with a razor with a little more heft to it. I've only been weilding a straight for about a month. I've taken the past week off from straights as I sent my razors to Lynn for a good honing. They were both NIB but weren't shave sharp. I'm looking forward to shaving with them!!
Jeff
P.S. What are some other good quality brands of razors besides TI and Dovo?

Thanked: 0Correlation between blade width and beard hardness?
Have moved from 5/8" to 7/8" with excellent results. Have quite a hard beard and find the wider blade handles it noticably better than the narrow ones. The 7/8" somehow seems to know the difference between whiskers and skin.
Greetings,
