Default I did my first shave today! YEA!!

Well i did my first SR shave today. I ordered the starter set from ruprazor. I know the razor is not as sharp as it should. I tried stroping it but still not sure if im doing it right. It felt like it pulled a little. Stretching my skin and opening my jaw i was able to get 80% of my face almost all the way down my neck. I have a goa t so i dont have to worry about above my lip and my chin. I alternated between hands. Same hand same side. I shaved WTG and XTG. I was very surprised it was not as hard as i thought it would be. I do know i need it invest in a quality brush. Came out BBS. Only a couply tiny spots where you can feel a faint stubble. Much better than to Safty razor. I LOVE IT!Im addicted!!!! Now the hardest part learning how to get the razor as sharp as possible. I fell the will be the most chalenging.
Oh yes! on top of that i had an audience. My 8 and 10 year old watching and distracting me. LOL! But they were good.

Welcome to a great world. I've been SR shaving for about a month now. I would mention a few quick things.

    1) See if any members are in your area and can give you some pointers, a two hour session one Saturday morning taught me a ton!

    2) Be careful when stropping. I found out that at the end of my strokes I was rolling the razor the wrong way and ended up rolling the edge of my brand new razor. A quick tip taught to me, concentrate on the last stroke, rolling the razor on its spine and comming to a complete stop with the razor on the strop, pointing up, then lift it straight off. I was lifting as the razor was comming towards me and that's how I rolled it.

I hope I helped and welcome!

Glad it worked out for you. My first shave was a bit anticlimactic. If you have chromium oxide on the back side of that stop, give it a few strokes and the shave will be noticeably better than the first...and the third is better than the second and before you know it, you'll be a pro.

First off welcome to SRP and congrats on your first shave. Now there are videos in the wiki on stropping and there is a section on technique. Read through these and it will help your stropping. If i read right you also said you didn't think your razor was sharp enough? Why do you think this?
Next I wouldn't worry to much about learning to hone a razor right off the bat, there is a lot to learn as far as proper angles and such while shaving. Give yourself some time to learn the basics then worry about honing. Just a suggestion..

Enjoy your new love for straight and

I can give a good piece of advice, I learned the hard way on this one. When you stretch the skin of your face while shaving, DO NOT let the skin slip and retract in the middle of a stroke with the razor. I have a healthy scar on my face from it. I wear the scar with pride, mind you! Just be careful of the skin stretching! Good luck!

When i was shaving i it felt like it was pulling the hair. Some areas did not feel it yet the area closer to my mouth did feel the pulling. Also if i run a hair across the blade it does not cut it. Should i send it back to ruprazor or strop it more?
