    Default Head shaving

I'm thinking of starting to shave with a straight razor. I need all the info such as How many and what coarse hones, strop paste use info. I wear a bald head, can a straight razor be used to shave the whole head effectively? Too many questions to ask in the forum is there someone I can call for help in shortening the learning curve?

    Thank you and Godspeed,
    Dale.

    Hi Dale,

Welcome to SRP. You can find lots of useful info on the Wiki page, just click on the Wiki button at the top and you'll find bunch of information. That's the best place to start and a ton of information there.

As far as shaving your head, there a folks here who do that and have no problems. Search the threads for discussion and you'll find video's of people shaving their heads with a straight razor and good suggestions on that subject as well.

    Best of luck!

    Welcome.

I know it's possible to shave your head with a straight but I've never tried. Let me know how it goes.

I shave my head with a straight razor. I waited till I was getting comfortable shaves on my face before I tried it, but in many ways shaving your head is easier as there's no chin, or nose in the way. The tricky part, as you would expect, is the back of your head and although some have rigged up a dual mirror system I personally just do it by feel. In fact I even go so far as to close my eyes when I shave the back of my head as I found that watching my hand in the mirror was throwing me off.

What razor do you use? I have tried several times, but have always given up halfway as it takes me waaay to long time. I feel the razor doesn't take as well on the head as it does in my face. I usually go to the barbershop for head shaves in Cambodia and they use shavettes.. Would love to be able to throw away the mach3.. I shave my face with a straight razor and would love to be able to use it on my head too. Maybe I need to try with a heavier razor. A big wade & butcher wedge or something..

    Default Head shaving

I don't use a straight razor yet but I was just wondering if shaving the head was possible and I see from some of your replies that it is. Thank you guys.

    Dale.

Whatever razor I've just shaved my face with. I generally lather my head, strop the razor again for something to do while the lather does it's work then do a single ATG pass on my head. I suppose if your hair has grown out a bit then you might need to do multiple passes on your head.

Don't need to that much. The main area is when I'm shaving up from my neck onto my head. I pull that area as tight as I can as that is the one place I cut myself repeatedly when I started. One of those cuts was easily the worst I've ever given myself with a straight razor, but I rarely even get so much as a nick now.
