I would have to say it is because of the challenge of mastering a fine piece of steel to do something that cartridge shavers don't even have. Hell, my grand daughter could shave with a cartridge without harm, and she's 4 yrs old. Second would be the prestige of it, using an old school razor, probably one that some one my grand Dads age used. It's as if the razor has taken a life of its own and we honor them by blowing the dust from them and giving them a purpose again. And, being a male, i would say as it has been stated earlier in this thread, Macho-istic reasons. Nothing like hanging with the guys, or ladies and letting out your little secret when the topic arises, which is seldom lol. The guys look at you as if you're nuts, but the ladies look with that little glint in their eyes. Maybe it sounds dangerous?

I've been wetshaving since I was in college (started around 1992) and transitioned to DE shaving almost three years ago. I've always wanted to try a straight razor, and I've finally worked up the guts to start (once my straight arrives in the mail!).
