Thanked: 7MYTH or FACT?
I'm SR shaving everyday in the hopes of "training" my skin for use with a SR. I am not shaving every two or three days as I see is sometimes recommended to a newcomer in order to "give the face time to heal."
So, the question is, I'm I ok, as a newbie, to shave everyday with a SR? My face seems ok with it, no big problems or outbreaks.
Just trying to do the right thing here. Thank you in advance for your input

Toplin,
There is no hard and fast rule concerning the frequency of use of a str8 razor. If your face is not having any adverse reaction to the use of a str8 razor, why not shave everyday with it?
Of course, if you experience razor burn , skin irritation from a daily str8 razor shave, then you may want to decrease it to every other day."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Thanked: 199+1 to the above
I think it's recommended to newbies because they usually have a problem with angle, pressure, prep and stretching that can cause razor burn and skin irritation.
If you're splashing with witch hazel or aftershave isn't burning your face bad, then keep up the good work

No.
It is believed that it takes about two weeks before your skin begins to respond to the more aggressive dipilation and exfoliation to replace the skin which is removed. Shaving more frequently will not make your skin adjust faster. That said, you might be fine out of the gate with daily shaves, but I doubt it.

Thanked: 4942It is not uncommon for a new person's face to be a little red, irritated or tender after the first couple shaves. When this happens, it's good to give the face a break for a couple of days. If you are not having any problems as the folks above have indicated, then shaving daily should not be a problem.
Ps.....If your splashing after the shave with Witch Hazel and your face doesn't burn, you ain't human...........

Thanked: 7speaking of witch hazel, that stuff works good. It's replaced my Trumpers Sandlewood skin food as an aftershave.
not bad for me considering:
Trumpers 30$ a bottle
Witch Hazel 3$ a bottle

Thanked: 155I have always shaved every day (will actually 6 days out of the week), and never experienced any issues. But, I never really had an issue with cutting myself any more than with a disposable razor or a DE so maybe I'm a bad example. Razor burn and irritation have never been an issue for me either probably because:
1) I don't have particularly sensitive skin, or if I ever did, it surrendered to my relatively rugged lifestyle a long time ago.
2) I have always used "wet shave" techniques including proper prep, lathering and stretching.
I started shaving with a DE many years ago, went through a phase with disposables, and have been using a straight razor from several years now, but I always stuck with my mug and brush.
