Thanked: 11Shaving chest/stomach
Hey everyone!!!
I am yet to have my first shave with a straight edge yet, but I hope to maybe Tuesday . Anyway, I'm sort of an aspiring bodybuilder as one of my hobbies, but one side of bodybuilding is having to shave your chest and stomach for competitions. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried shaving their own chest and stomach before with a str8? I haven't done it before, even with a multi blade razor, but i thought i would ask out of interest, and if one day i might have to do it.
Thanks!!!

Never done the whole thing, but just where the hairs shouldn't be. Mainly upper chest and shoulders. The hair is sparse and thin there but the contours are fairly easy. You should be fine if you can do tour face okay. Unless you're totally ripped with a six and all. That might be more difficult than a face. Try the easier areas and see how it goes. Come to think of it, when I was learning to shave it was with a straight(my old man insisted) and he told me to practice around the edges of the chest for practice instead of my arm so I wouldn't have a hairless arm and a hairy arm.

I think I can add a few points here:
1. I'm sure it can be done. For various reasons, if you can shave your face, you can shave chest/stomach. They present no challenge I can think of that your lip and chin area doesn't. (Okay, nipples would be a new one....don't slice those off...but that ought to be simple enough) Unless you compete at a very high level your veins wouldn't get in the way.
I wouldn't put much thought or effort into though for a couple reasons.
2. Before a comp. your not going to have very steady hands due pre-comp. cutting diets. Even after the final carb-up there's no telling how your body will react until you've been there and done that. You don't want to shortchange yourself by introducing something into your routine that you may not be able to do when it comes time. Add on any pre-show "nutrition" changes and well, I think a cartridge razor is far-and-away the smarter choice. You can shave with one of those even if the room is spinning and you don't know which way is up.
3. I don't there's any advantage to the closer shave of a straight here. It's about appearance here...and you're going to have 10,000 things to stress about. Pre-show needs to be as simple as possible.
4. From the pictures I've seen the "dressing rooms" are a madhouse. Good luck trying to get good hot water, a place to hang a strop, mix a lather, and not get bumped into.
5. They use Nair and wax for a reason. Completely removes the need to shave for the show. (See number 3 and 4)
Now you said you've never tried this even with a cartridge razor. Here's some friendly advice, although it's been several years since shaved that area.
1. Make sure you really really really want to. It itches like a after a day.
2. It's going to itch like crazy, and look crazy-weird if you don't do it every day.
3. Did I mention it itches?
Never got into BB much, I was more PL...but I ran around with a few who took it pretty serious. (at least in their minds)

I'v been shaving my chest and back with a straight for a long time now ,
you can do this the day before a competition and shouldn't have a problem . I usually go 3-4 days between shaves (chest) you just have to be careful around certain a areas for instance collar bone , up around throat , and of course nips haha

Thanked: 2591did not go too well for me, face skin seems to be more robust and can take the exfoliation with straight, but not the chest.
I use DE for that and it works great.Stefan

if you explain to the jury that the cuts you have on your chest and abdomen are from pre-competition straight razor shaving that will make you look even more masculine
If you unpack all your straight shaving paraphernalia in a crowded dressing room the crowd will step aside and watch you in awe!Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

Thanked: 190I wouldn't recommend doing this for the first time just before a show. What you will find is that hair is everywhere and all over the body. Little small hairs do not get noticed until you start shaving. You start shaving one area and you get hooked into shaving a much bigger area.
I thought it would be a cool experience to shave the seen hair on my back. I did some and got the Mrs. to finish the rest. Some tiny weepers showed up and this surprised me and it was just one simple smooth pass. Also there is the sensation of the new feel that I underestimated.
I shave my forehead every few weeks and I am always amazed at just how smooth my skin feels because I take off all the dry skin and tiny unnoticeable hairs. So it works well, but there are some minor kinks that could come up and you do not want to be surprised by this just before a show.
Good Luck with it,
Pabster
