I had to figure out what worked for my particular beard as we all do. Make sure to 'map' your whiskers by running your fingertips over the stubble to learn in which direction your whiskers are growing on your neck. That may help with your angle of attack.

You forgot to mention how all this is made easier when you use cold water!!
Seriously, I. Have found cold water makes shaving tough spots much easier
